Getting Noticed…Quietly
You don’t have to be loud to stand out. In fact, being quiet could be the very quality that makes you stand out because eventually a chatty person will stop and say “You’re quiet”. When this happens for me I want to say “Yes I am, thanks for noticing”, but instead I simply say “Yep.”
What I hear a lot of (somewhat because it’s loud) is the idea that if somebody wants to get noticed (I usually don’t; more on that later) you’ve got to stand up and “be powerful”, be heard, and make your presence known. Many people seem to think that being louder than somebody else is the way to get noticed.
Think about loud cars with lots of modifications to make them loud: why would somebody do that to their car? Just for fun? Maybe, but if so, what’s fun about it? Getting noticed. That’s what I think anyway. It’s true that some people just feel the need to make noise. And some people just want freshly-ground coffee beans and the grinder happens to make lots of noise.
With so much sound and noise out there, in my opinion, it just doesn’t work to try and be louder than anyone else. If we look at other senses, like vision, I see the same thing. To be seen, we don’t really need brighter colours, bigger visuals, or more intense graphics.
